Townsville Orchid Society
Townsville Orchid Society was formed in 1947 and is one of the longest-running Orchid Societies in Australia. We are one of a limited number of Orchid Societies who own our own hall.
We regret the Hall is not available for hire, until further notice.
Monthly General Meetings and monthly Novice/New Grower Meetings are held from 1pm on the fourth Sunday of each month (except December) at our hall at:
Joe Kirwan Park, Charles Street, Kirwan (in the block between Bamford Lane and Thuringowa Drive).
Three Orchid Shows are held at our hall each year, in Autumn, Winter and Spring.
The Autumn Orchid Show 2017 was held from Friday 31st March to Sunday 2nd April.
A Winter Orchid Show ("The Townsville Orchid Spectacular") was held at the Townsville Stadium in association with the Tropical Queensland Orchid Conference from Friday 9th June to Sunday 11th June.
The Spring Orchid Show 2017:
will be held from Friday 8 September to Sunday 10 September.
Orchids and other plants are for sale in conjunction with our Orchid Shows.
Membership of Townsville Orchid Society
New members are always welcome. It is not necessary to be a member to attend our Novice/New Growers meetings, though membership will be suggested after a few visits!
Membership of the Townsville Orchid Society is currently $20 per year for family membership. This includes a monthly newsletter plus the chance to attend our monthly meetings and other events held regularly, such as bus trips, shade house visits, etc.
Our monthly meetings feature a speaker talking on some aspect of orchid culture to help you increase your knowledge of orchids and help you to grow and flower your orchids. There are also regular talks aimed specifically at novice growers to help them quickly increase their knowledge.
As a member of the Townsville Orchid Society, you also have full access to our library, which contains many orchid books and magazines. In addition, you gain access to the collective knowledge of our members to assist you with acquiring and growing your orchids.
If you would like to join our society, you can either come along to one of our meetings where a membership form will be available, or you can download our Membership form .
